At the Stanford Method, we have had years of experience helping clients to have healthier lives with our Weight Reduction Program.  We help participants find new ways of coping with the issues that trigger inappropriate eating.  Our goal is to help overeaters develop the mindset, ability and motivation to envision themselves as fit and healthy.  We help them to access the good feelings that come from being in better control of their emotional state as well as their food intake.

The Mayo Clinic  literature on emotional eating tells us that it is “eating as a way to suppress or soothe negative emotions, such as stress, anger, fear, boredom, sadness and loneliness”. Unfortunately, both major life events and the little hassles of daily life can trigger negative emotions that lead to emotional eating and disrupt weight-loss efforts.

These triggers can include:

  • Unemployment
  • Financial pressure
  • Health problems
  • Relationship conflicts
  • Work stress
  • Lack of sunshine
  • Fatigue


We know what it takes for clients to move past painful addictions to food.  Our clients have found that they no longer need to eat to stifle emotions or to manage their moods. Negative, self-defeating messages from the past can be replaced with self-empowering thoughts and the result is a dramatic shift away from self destructive eating.

Our method is a sound approach that develops healthy thinking and eating patterns and safely achieves wellness goals. Rather than regarding our approach as another “dreaded diet program”, our aim is to help clients develop the positive mental attitudes that will lead to lasting success.  In fact, our Weight Reduction Program is designed to help our clients become emotionally satisfied while eating healthy food and eating moderate portions.

Our personal sessions are customized to our clients’ individual needs.  The meditation portion of each individual session is recorded for “at home reinforcement” which enhances long term success.  (Weight Reduction Seminar participants are provided with a relaxing meditation recording for reinforcement.) 

The results have been very gratifying with clients telling us that they are able to finally able to break the cycle of food addiction.
